Some Problems Of Using Granite

By Anita Ortega

Marble and granite are just some of the rocks which are always used in commercial purposes. Granite tampa florida is an igneous rock consist of quartz and greyish rocks where it got its grey. Some of examples of its usage are sculpting, kitchen tables and tiles and other types of masonry. Though it is useful, it still unavoidable to have problems with it.

But there are some issues regarding its quality over time. These qualitative problems can be its natural reaction or its reaction towards some other thing. But this problems can be avoided if they are being managed accordingly. And this is why you need to know its issues for you to be prepared or find a way to avoid them.

The first one is blistering or the swelling of the surface to water exposure and other natural or artificial factors. When this is left unattended, it will worsen and may lead to exfoliation and spalling. Though it is already a natural reaction of granite there are available chemicals these days which can lessen this one or can even avoid it.

It is very sensitive that in a very single hard hit, it will crack and chip. It is its natural side because of the fact that it is composed of different types of rock and therefore its adhesion is not that strong compared to marble and quartz which is only composed of itself and made its composition to tight for easy cracking and chipping.

When it is already installed in your bathroom, kitchen, or anywhere, time will come that white substances will appear like big maps of continent. This reaction is called efflorescence which is usually caused by some sort chemical reaction between the chemicals used in such stone and those from the cleaning agents.

If you have seen a close photo of a sphinx in Egypt, notice that its lower surface have these lines which looks like traces made by water, but no, they are cause by wind. This will happen to the granite if it is too exposed with the strong wind. It will erode and loose some of its layers. To prevent this, you have to buy some applications.

Flaking and Peeling, flaking mostly cause by thawing and freezing cycles which can cause water exposure to its surface. The exfoliation and delamination is more affective than those in blistering. The latter is the process of flaking away of the surface of the rock. Usually comes out into thin strips which usually caused by improper masonry such as putting chemical covers.

And of course it is also unavoidable that there will be some reason which is no longer a fault for the granite. Staining is just one of those factors which were caused by animals or human. Another thing that this is not good in outdoors is that once it is already stained, it can no longer be undone unless you are will to sacrifice a surface of it which is not a good thing for sculptures. Considering that vandalism is very prominent these days.
